WHAT IS ABA THERAPY?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is widely accepted as the most effective treatment for children with autism. The efficacy of ABA therapy with individuals with autism spectrum disorders has been well documented for decades, and is considered the “gold standard” in autism treatment. An individualized treatment plan targets the skills most impactful to the child, assisting them in leading the most fulfilling and independent life possible. Treatment plans at Next Step are developed by a licensed Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and implemented by a highly trained ABA therapist. OUR APPROACH
At Next Step, our qualified clinical team provides play-based ABA therapy to help children reach a range of developmental milestones to help them enter the least restrictive environment in kindergarten and beyond. Our team assesses strengths and weaknesses in a child’s verbal and communicative behavior and uses this information to guide their treatment plan. Each child receives one-on-one therapy in a fun, energetic environment with developmentally appropriate toys, games, and materials and frequent opportunities to engage with peers.
A CLINIC SETTING
While there are documented benefits to both in-home and clinic based treatment, Next Step has chosen to provide clinic-based ABA therapy for a variety of reasons. Designing a fun and engaging environment where children want to be is the first step in capitalizing on every possible learning opportunity. A clinic setting allows your child to enter a space each day that is familiar, friendly, and associated with positive play experiences, while allowing our therapists the professional support of a variety of materials to choose from, a controlled environment, and the support of other professionals, including BCBAs, at a moment’s notice.
A FAMILY- CENTERED APPROACH
Partnering with parents and other caregivers has been a cornerstone of our successful program since day one. We believe parents are the expert on their child, and we are here to support you in your parenting journey. For parents, an autism diagnosis brings with it a multitude of emotions, decisions, worries, and questions about the future. We’ve walked this road with hundreds of families, and we want to not only guide you on your journey in ABA therapy, but to also be a source of support and understanding on the hard days.
Parents participate in bi-monthly participation in treatment with your child’s therapist and behavior analyst. We also offer a multitude of options for parent training and support. In addition, our small clinic offers parents a chance to grow in community with other parents of children on the autism spectrum, reassuring you that you are not alone in this.
